Embedding Videos

Hey, I was just wondering if it would be fine to embed informational youtube videos on the wiki. I'm rendering one out on the jungle right now. I haven't been on the wiki long, so I'm not sure on the rules for it.

Thank you so much for your question! First off welcome to the wiki. Second off you talked about using a video about jungling. I am currently working on a project that we will be launching soon. The project is "Community Guides". I can possibly set it up where you can add the video up there and such as a video guide, instead of a written guide. Would that be something you are possibly interested in? ^^ Please let me know. Also, in the future please remember to sign your posts, when you are done leaving a message on a wiki discussion page. You do so by ~~~~. Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you! Tesla 22:53, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Switching to lossless datamined images

Greetings. This is partially for Krayt88 as well as Tesla and other editors as I trust many are following your page. I have gone through and datamined and uploaded a large amount of game files which are of lossless (png) quality. You can see the difference in quality in the images by comparing for example [this version of Agni's page and the [current state] (actually, the items and card image are downsized on that page so the quality can be improved even further). I also made it so clicking on the recommended item on the God page links to the item page rather than the image file. I have also updated all of the item page images and plan to give the other God pages the same treatment. I urge people to use raw/lossless images whenever possible. nakomaru 09:01, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

I've created/added to several categories to contain the datamined images: Skill Icons, Skill Art, Portrait Art, God Icons, God Cards, Concept Art, and Item Icons. I hope this is useful to other editors. Cheers. nakomaru 15:28, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Oh! Thank you for letting me know! I saw a lot of the changes you have been doing. I am going to continue working on my newest project for the wiki, which I am happy to announce: Community Guides :) Tesla 08:16, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Change to Quotes?

Hey man, I've been wondering if we shouldn't just group all the quotes (jokes, taunts and whatever random things the characters say when spawning initially, dying or using abilities) together into one section? Also, how should we treat the High Seas skin for Sobek, since it has an entirely new voice over? RedArremer 23:17, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

I will consider that idea. :) ~ As for his special new voice over, hmmm... Give me time to think on that please! (Ps - Sorry for the late response.) Tesla 11:03, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Voice Commands

Hi Tesla. Would you please put Voice Commands under Resources on the front page?

Dear Slicyr, thanks so much for putting that page together. However if you look at the Controls page that is listed on the front page, you will find that the full VGS system is listed there. After all they are in game controls. Further more, please remember to sign after posting on a discussion page. To sign you do ~~~~. Thanks again! Tesla 22:29, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Templates

I've been testing out some templates to make it easier to create/edit item/god pages in the future. i made them so that there is one place that contains the data for an item/god and can be reused elsewhere within the wiki. this should help with maintaining the items pages if/when balancing occurs. check out my user page for the templates and example usage.

--Zojima 03:18, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

I believe I'm finished with the god template. It sets up the page as the current format and can accommodate all the current gods, even Hel's page which has two images per skill. I added a Response section as shown in the current Loki page. I'm almost done working on the item template to accommodate an item's page, the format used in the item lists, and will add code for it to be used in the item spreadsheet. Once done with those, I will write some usage info and start incorporating them in the appropriate pages.

--Zojima 16:49, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Hey! I've been watching your edits closely. I will be happy to review your templates within the next couple of weeks (only going to take that long cause of an event I am involved in - sorry), but part of the reason I held off on the Item Template is because we may be implementing the API system sometime in the next month. That alone will change how those templates work - etc. Its why I set the project down for a while. But great work so far, I see you are working hard and will do my best to review your stuff within the next 2 weeks. Tesla 11:01, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the consideration of reviewing my work! But take your time, no rush is necessary since these templates are still very much works in progress and I am still learning the MediaWiki syntax and techniques. I've been trying to parameterize the item/ability/consumable/god pages as much as possible to make it easier for their related pages to conform to a particular format and to have the information for an item complied in one place instead of how spread out it is now, while still making it simple for new or unfamiliar users to edit and contribute.
I'm pretty excited to hear that an API will be implemented soon. Do you have any high/low-level information you could share about it, maybe like any template/function prototypes (still somewhat new to wiki-editing so not so sure what the terminology would be)? If so, I can start to evaluate what changes I might need to make on these templates to make the transition smoother.
--Zojima 18:49, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
Hey Tesla, do you happen to know the status of the API? I would really like to help test/implement it into the wiki.
--Zojima 17:16, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

do you think a template for skills would be useful? --Zojima 15:07, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

"Items" on frontpage links to Special:Random

Might want to fix that ;) Slicyr 18:36, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

I will fixing that at a later time as I did have some plans for that link. However I am the one who set it that way for now. ^_^ Tesla 15:49, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Main page overhaul

Hey Tesla. First of all, unrelated, I responded to your question over at my talk page.

With that outta the way, I am thinking of working out a major overhaul of the frontpage. I've been looking into some different MOBA wikis, and think that a layout similar to that of the Dota 2 wiki might be pretty cool and work well for Smite. What do you think?

Edit: Also, I think we need to think about some solution for the skin sections of the character pages, since soon they will be extending over the border (and already do on smaller resolutions like I have), and I also think that merging responses/jokes/etc. into one "quotes" section would also be a good idea, but those are more minor things.

RedArremer 18:58, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

I've started looking into working with javascript for the wiki. Maybe we could write a script to get the user's screen resolution and either display smaller versions of the images (would need to store multiple images on the server) or scale the images based on that resolution. example
--Zojima 00:17, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
I don't know how to program java, I'm afraid, so I couldn't help you there, but I think it's a good idea. I'm not sure how fancy we need to get for now, though. Personally, I would love to alter the character pages to look similar to that of the LoL wiki (i.e. with tabs, and the skins would be able to be scrolled through), but I like the frontpage of the Dota 2 wiki better (I think it's much easily to navigate, and also doesn't eat up resources with its fancy scripts). Of course, that's something Tesla'll have to decide. ;)
RedArremer 00:24, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Ok guys ~ So here is the thing. I will start working on seeing what we can do about the Skins and "Quotes" section. As for a main page overhaul, please let me think long and hard on it. I want things to look really good if thats what we are going to do.

~ As for Java, its a pain in the butt to use, but an opinion. Though I dont know it. So I would have to learn it -_-. ~ Further more as for the status of the API System, I have no control over how quick it takes to be put into effect. I was told it was put on the list. So it shouldn't be tooo long. Tesla 01:15, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

In order to do anything fancy, such as scrolling through images like on the LoL wiki, will most likely require the use of javascript. i have done some light scripting with php and javascript in the past, but i wouldn't mind trying to learn it again. if anyone comes up with any design ideas, i'll look into what it would take to implement it and try to test it in my sandboxes.
--Zojima 23:28, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
I'm liking your GodNav sandbox a LOT, Zojima. :) That's just about what I would've imagined for the main page, just, of course, with smaller icons. I can make nice crop-outs from the standard icons or loading screen splash art (which in most cases IS the icon anyway, heh). And I probably will make my own sandbox and try to work out a main page look.
RedArremer 16:07, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
thanks for checking it out! the size of the icons can easily be changed to make them smaller and i wouldn't mind if anyone changed the size values in the god nav item. i'm mostly just testing functionality and getting better acquainted with MediaWiki and html. i'll probably add in some other formats sometime to see how they work.
--Zojima 16:46, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Ok so here is one thing that I've noticed - While our (Curse's) DotA wiki has quite a few cool things as far as coding goes, there is a lot of messy code and such or things that aren't needed. Give me sometime though and I will shift through all your ideas and see what I think will look best and give it a try. I hope that sounds alright with all of you. ^_^ Tesla 07:28, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Just a thought, but why not work up some alternatives on sandbox pages in your userspaces? It might be easier to get an idea of what people are proposing if they actually present example layouts. Then you all can pick and choose, and maybe come up with some great collaborative layouts based on everyone's ideas. --Wynthyst 18:31, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Unreleased Content

Hi. You might've noticed that, other than cleaning up the skins section a bit, I've added a few model pictures for unreleased skins (Arachne, Bastet and Neith). I'll also add the Cheerleader Kali skin, just to make it complete.

That said, I was wondering if you'd like me to add all the unreleased characters as well. I've been adding the obviously upcoming characters, but I was wondering if you want me to add the characters that are in the game files (just with placeholders), as well as Fenrir and Yen-Lo-Wang (with screens of their models), and if I added them, would you want them on the frontpage? Obviously, these character pages all would say that these gods all are unreleased, and that there's no guarantee they will ever come out. Additionally, we could add "unreleased" as new pantheon of sorts. --- RedArremer 05:00, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
